Patients' rights, duties and responsibilities

Patient rights:

  •  The right to inform the patient of his full rights and to preserve his dignity without regard to nationality, color, age, sex, or religion.
  • Appropriate assessment and pain management.
  • The patient has the right to obtain complete and up-to-date information about his condition from his treating physician regarding his diagnosis/treatment. In a manner or language that the patient can understand.
  • Respect and protect the patient’s privacy during healthcare.
  • Providing care in a safe environment, free from all forms of abuse.
  • The patient has the right to know the name of the physician, his professional description, and how to contact him.
  • The patient has the right to participate in making the care decision and implementing the care plan, as well as the right to know the complications, alternatives, and risks from his physician.
  • The patient has the right to receive continuous health care as well as referral to different levels of treatment inside/outside the hospital. If the case requires it after his consent.
  • Giving prior consent before starting any surgical procedure, anesthesia, blood transfusion, or imaging except in emergency cases.
  • Complete confidentiality of the patient regarding information about his health condition. And not to disclose any information except after his consent except in a judicial capacity.
  • Respecting the patient’s choices, needs, and demands including his personal beliefs, and responding to:
  • His spiritual and psychological needs and appreciating his personal nutritional choices.
  • The patient has the right to preserve his property/valuables from loss or damage.
  • Assisting, especially facilities for patients with special needs.
  • Patients have the right to leave the hospital against medical advice and have the right to refuse treatment or care provided / or unnecessary visits.
  • The right to receive full health care in emergency cases without considering the therapist’s eligibility and costs.
  • The patient has the right to know the costs of care accurately before providing care.
  • The right to obtain a medical report on his health condition and to know his results and tests.
  • The patient has the right to submit a written or oral complaint grievance or suggestion without affecting the services provided to him.
  • The patient has the right to view his medical file and is encouraged to add his notes and document them in the file with the help of the social worker.
  • The patient has the right to choose a care partner (accompanied) to share with him about his health care inside or outside the hospital.

Responsibilities of patients and their relatives

  • Preserving the property of the health facility and others.
  • Safe and correct use of facilities and equipment in the health facility.
  • Providing personal identification.
  • Providing complete and accurate information about the patient’s personal and medical information.
  • Informing healthcare providers about the patient’s previous surgeries and visits to other health facilities.
  • Reporting any changes in the patient’s health
    Notifying the doctor about not understanding the treatment plan and interventions.
  • Providing accurate and complete information about the patient’s health insurance.
  • Ensuring that financial obligations due to the health facility are met immediately.
  • Following the recommended treatment plan. Where the patient or legal guardian is responsible for his actions and the consequences resulting from him in the event of his refusal of treatment.
  • Treat all employees or other patients and visitors with respect.
  • Adhere to the general rules and respect other cultural, spiritual, and personal values ​​and beliefs.
  • Respect the privacy of others.
  • Follow the regulations and guidelines of the health facility.
  • Observe and implement the security and safety systems in the facility.
  • Adhere to appointments and contact the health facility in the event of inability to attend.
  • Commit to implementing the decision to transfer to another place or leave as decided by the treating physician.
  • Adopt a no-smoking policy in the health facility.
  • Adhere to visiting hours except what the patient specifies for flexible visits and do not bring prohibited items.
  • Keep health facilities clean and do not disturb others.
